Should I text him? What should I say?

A guy and I texted and he told my friend he liked me but not to tell me, but she did anyways so he finally admitted it. I told him I kind of liked him but we needed to get to know each other better, and he agreed. So after that we texted for a couple days, then he stopped for a few. He's kind of led girls on before, so my friends kind of flipped out on him and kept asking if he still liked me. Finally he said he still did and texted me and said he wasn't ignoring me, he had only been talking to his "bestfriends for the past few days". I apologized for my friends and he said it was ok and we started texting normally again. That was Saturday night, and we haven't talked since. I miss him like crap, but I want to text him so I can figure out if he still likes me. Would I be clingy if I texted him? I'm kind of scared to..I know what my friends did was a mistake. Help?
