The four apostles, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John are each one associated by the church with a zodiacal sign. The one pertaining to John is Leo the Lion. Could the saying be referencing a change inside of us individually wherein the higher Self, the Lion, lays down with the lower, a dumb lamb in bad need of a Shepard? This would imply reaching a point of equilibrium between the two, the authority resting in the higher with the lower subdued. (my opinion)
