May I ask an awkward question on the subject of racial pride and bias?
Black ops, matrioshka, ok...and here is my awkward answer. You are absolutely correct. I am also proud of my ancestry but am near giving up. We’ve been under Spain for 333 years. They taught us how to feel inferior and called us “Indios”, lazy, dirty, all those things. The Spanish soldiers raped our women and the illegitimate offsprings were named Reyes / Delos Reyes (the number 3 most common name in the Philippines). The Friars and Padres raped our women and the children were named Santos or Delos Santos (the second most common name here). The most common name here is De la Cruz or Cruz (because those who couldn’t write were asked to sign with a cross over their names.) 300+ years of conditioning destroyed our self-esteem, self-confidence and self-identity. After those years Spain in the mock battle of Manila Bay, sold us to the United States for $50,000.00. The US converted us into a commonwealth - which meant that they could empty our mines, destroy our forests, deplete our resources and also, rape, murder, etc. They had a lot of investments here to protect so they defended us against the japanese. But the Americans actually killed more Filipinos than the japs did in the Manila City war. The west, US and Spain became rich because of riches they “stole” from countries like us that is why I cannot blame some countries for hating the US so much. I am a universalist and so I am beyond this but I am not blind to western oppression.
