A guys who said he still liked me on Saturday night hasn't talked to me since?

I started to text him, and we texted for like 2 days straight (him starting the conversation most of the time), then he stopped for a few and I texted him again, and we talked and he told my friend he liked me but not to tell. She told me anyways, so he admitted it to me and we texted for another 2 days straight about. He stopped texting me for a few again, and a couple of my friends kind of flipped out on him because he was acting like he was leading me on (He's done that before kinda) and he ignored them but then finally told my friend he still liked me but had only been talking to his "best friends for the past few days." He texted me and said he was not ignoring me and I apologized for my friends and he accepted. I told him he didn't have to text me if he didn't want to and he said twice that he really did. After that we started talking normally and he put smileys and stuff. That was late Saturday night, and he hasn't talked to me since. I still kinda like the kid, but idk if I should try to text him or not. I know my friends made a mistake, but I just need to know what to do next. Thanks.
